Route Your App AVPlayer Media and Video Streaming via the EMM Tunneling
Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions offer tunneling to provide secure access to internal resources. However, when developers use AVPlayer inside iOS mobile apps, it often presents several challenges for EMM tunnels, including performance and stability of the connection. Appdome offers SmartMediaTM Routing, which enables Media Player streaming and media files to be sent over any secured EMM Tunnel for any mobile application.
This Knowledge Base article provides step-by-step instructions for using Appdome to add Smart Media routing to any iOS mobile app.
We hope you find this knowledge base useful and enjoy using Appdome!
Adding SmartMediaTM Routing for EMM Tunneling on Appdome
Appdome is a mobile integration platform as a service (iPaaS) that allows users to add a wide variety of features, SDKs, and APIs to Android and iOS apps. Using a simple ‘click to add’ user interface, Appdome allows anyone to easily integrate EMM SDKs, EMM Tunneling, and SmartMediaTM Routing to any mobile app – instantly, no code or coding required.
Using Appdome, there is no development or coding required. For example, there is no SDK, libraries, or plug-ins to implement. There are no required infrastructure changes and no requirement to add EMM browsers or any other browsing component inside the application. Users merely upload a mobile app, select the EMM and SmartMediaTM Routing feature, and click “Build My App.” The Appdome technology automatically adds the secured EMM tunnel, SmartMediaTM Routing and more automatically, with no manual development work at all. Using Appdome, mobile apps using AVPlayer will send their media files through the EMM tunnel and access secure internal resources as if the capabilities were natively coded into the application.
Prerequisites for using Appdome for SmartMediaTM Routing for EMM Tunneling
In order to use Appdome’s no code implementation of SmartMediaTM Routing on Appdome, you’ll need:
- Appdome account – IDEAL or Higher.
- Appdome-DEV access
- iOS Mobile App
- EMM environment (for any of the Appdome supported EMMs)
Note: Discover more about the EMMs on Appdome
- Signing Credentials (e.g., signing certificates and provisioning profile)
How to Add SmartMediaTM Routing on Appdome
Follow these step-by-step instructions to add SmartMediaTM Routing for EMM Tunneling to any Mobile App:
Upload a Mobile App to Your Account
Please follow these steps to add a mobile app to your Appdome account.
If you don’t have an Appdome account, click here to create an account.
From the Build tab, select Management
- Under Enterprise Mobility Management enable or toggle “ON” EMM Services
- From the EMM vendor drop-down list, select your EMM service
- Under Appdome Mobility Suite expands the Adaptive App Routing category
- Enable Route all Traffic (default) or Inclusive Routing
- Enable or toggle “ON” SmartMediaTM Routing
- For iOS apps, if you’d like to apply EMM tunneling and policies to Safari components then enable Safari Routing.
- Click Build My App
The technology behind Build My App has two major elements – (1) a microservice architecture filled with 1000s of code sets needed for mobile integrations, and (2) an adaptive code generation engine that can recognize the development environment, frameworks and methods in each application and match the application to the relevant code-sets needed to add SmartMediaTM Routing and EMM tunneling to the mobile app in seconds.
Congratulations! Once Appdome has finished your mobile integration project (usually in 30 seconds), you’ll see the notification below. You now have a mobile app fully integrated with SmartMediaTM Routing and the EMM Tunnel from your selected EMM vendor.
After Adding SmartMediaTM Routing to a Mobile App on Appdome
After you have added SmartMediaTM Routing to any mobile app on Appdome, there are a few additional steps needed to complete your mobile integration project.
Add Context™ to the Appdome Built App
Appdome is a full-featured mobile integration platform. Within Context™, Appdome users can brand the app, including adding a favicon to denote the new service added to the application.
For more information on the range of options available in Context™, please read this knowledge base article.
Sign the Appdome Built Application (Required)
In order to deploy an Appdome-Built app, it must be signed. Signing iOS app and Signing an Android app is easy using Appdome. Alternatively, you can use Private Signing, download your unsigned application and sign locally using your own signing methods.
Deploy the Appdome Built Application to a Mobile Device
Once you have signed your Appdome-Built application, you can download it to deploy it using your distribution method of choice. For more information on deploying your Appdome-built apps, please read this knowledge base.
That is it – Enjoy Appdome for EMM with SmartMediaTM Routing in your application!
