How to Securely Retrieve and Use Google Advertising ID (GAID) Using AI
This Knowledge Base article describes how to use Appdome’s AI in your CI/CD pipeline to continuously deliver plugins that Use Google Advertising IDs in Android apps.
What are Google Advertising IDs?
Google Advertising ID (GAID) is the operating system identifier used for advertising on Android devices. It is assigned to each Android user by the operating system and commonly used by ad networks, analytics tools, and attribution platforms to track installs, measure user activity, and personalize ads. GAID is user-resettable, meaning a user can manually generate a new ID at any time or opt out of the ad tracking.
In mobile fraud, attackers often manipulate GAID values to spoof devices, cycle identities, simulate fake installs, or alter user activity patterns.
How Appdome Secures Android Apps by Collecting the Google Advertising ID
Appdome’s dynamic Google Advertising ID (GAID) plugin securely collects the GAID for use in install attribution and fraud analysis. You can correlate the GAID with other Appdome-generated fingerprints to detect spoofing, cycling, and other forms of fraud.
Prerequisites for Using Appdome's Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) Plugins:
To use Appdome’s mobile app security build system to Use Google Advertising IDs , you’ll need:
- Appdome account (create a free Appdome account here)
- A license for Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID)
- Mobile App (.apk or .aab for Android)
- Signing Credentials (see Signing Secure Android apps and Signing Secure iOS apps)
How to Implement Use Google Advertising IDs in Android Apps Using Appdome
On Appdome, follow these simple steps to create self-defending Android Apps that Use Google Advertising IDs without an SDK or gateway:

Designate the Mobile App to be protected.

Upload an app via the Appdome Mobile Defense platform GUI or via Appdome’s DEV-API or CI/CD Plugins.

Android Formats: .apk or .aab

Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) is compatible with: Java, JS, C++, C#, Kotlin, Flutter, React Native, Unity, Xamarin, Cordova and other Android apps.

Select the defense: Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID).

Follow the steps in Sections 2.2-2.2.2 of this article to add the Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) feature to your Fusion Set via the Appdome Console.

When you enable Protect Advertising IDs you'll notice that the Fusion Set you created in step 2.1 now bears the icon of the protection category that contains Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID).

Note: Annotating the Fusion Set to identify the protection(s) selected is optional only (not mandatory). -
Open the Fusion Set Detail Summary by clicking the “...” symbol on the far-right corner of the Fusion Set. Copy the Fusion Set ID from the Fusion Set Detail Summary (as shown below):

Follow the instructions below to use the Fusion Set ID inside any standard mobile DevOps or CI/CD toolkit like Bitrise, Jenkins, Travis, Team City, Circle CI or other system:

Create and name the Fusion Set (security template) that will contain the Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) feature as shown below:

Add the Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) feature to your security template.

Navigate to Build > IDAnchor tab > Android IDAnchor section in the Appdome Console.

Toggle On Protect Advertising IDs > Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID).
Note: The checkmark feature Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) is enabled by default, as shown below.

Certify the Protect Google Advertising ID (GAID) feature in Android Apps
